Christopher Eatough ‘A Creek In The Cold’ Album Review

Armed acoustically with intent to break your heart, Christopher Eatough presents his debut album A Creak in the Cold.  Released under the aptly named Pull Yourself Together records, it would be fair to say the majority of listeners will need to do just that after discovering these tales of depression and false hope.

Anything gloomy suits me down to the ground and this record delivers everything required to gently knock you down and sensitively pull you up. However, I’m used to hearing acoustic sob stories from many of the university music graduates who will happily whine on about their ‘struggles’. Do me a favour.

Fortunately, A Creak in the Cold is genuinely stunning.  It takes a lot for an album to encapsulate me, but from start the finish, but I can honestly say that I was part of the journey and have come out the other side having learnt harsh lessons about myself, let alone Eatough’s tales of woe and optimism.

Free download single and album opener Shades of Blue captures everything that the album delivers. A wonderfully crafted tale of emotional destruction, a perfect introduction to everything that Eatough conveys.

This a finely crafted album, produced clearly with the intent to truly showcase the heartfelt vocals that really distinguish Eatough. It’s not hard to hear that he is passionate about each and every intimate recital. Listen to highlight of the LP, There Were No Ghosts. Point proven.

These acoustic tales are also finely backed by a perfect sprinkling of percussion.  In terms of production, it’s near spot on. Just listen to Shanty Town to understand the delicate ambience upon which talent blossoms.

There is no doubt this is an accomplished debut and one that is deserving of wider exposure.  For anyone with working auricles, this album will no doubt enlighten. The buzz of one of the Northwest’s most revered new live performers has transferred into something effortlessly beautiful.
