The irrepressible Bon Iver has shocked the popular music press by receiving four Grammy nominations this year. Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) leapt on to the music scene with his amazing debut album ‘For Emma Forever Ago’ in 2008. His most recent self-titled effort released earlier this year has now surprisingly ensnared him a quartet of major Grammy nominations. Bon Iver is up against pop acts such as the Band Perry, J. Cole, Nicki Minaj and Skrillex for Best New Artist. His gently undulating ‘Holocene’ is up for record and song of the year and he also got a nod for Best Alternative Music Album.
Much like Arcade Fire’s unanticipated leapfrog over Eminem at last year’s Grammys to take the Album of the Year honors, come February 12, Vernon has a shot at becoming one of the biggest outsider artists to ever crash music’s big night.
