Manchester’s massive-rock four-piece Embers have announced the release of new single ‘Part Of The Echos’ on July 8th 2013 via new music blog-come-label Killing Moon.

Prepare to feel like you’re running up a mountain in slo-mo, winning the olympics, knocking out your weary opponent, and then prepare for the comedown; the shivvery shakes, like an astronaut coming back to earth and realising that nothing can ever be the same again…

‘Part Of The Echos’ is available to pre-order now on clear 7″ vinyl along with b-side ‘Digital Haze’.

Manchester label Only Joking Records have put together an anthology of Manchester’s recent musical gems and the tracklist reads like a dream team of local music.

Featuring the likes of Former Bullies, Temple Songs and Brown Brogues as well as other Manchester staples such as Gnod, Klaus Kinski and The Bell Peppers, ‘Manchester Standards – Sides 1&2′ is a booming selection of some of the best bands – and best tracks – the city has to offer.

Gone are the days of a peck on the cheek, a moist hand shake or a little kiss on the bottom, Manchester’s psych-folk harmonisers The Travelling Band are changing the world of thanks yous forever.

As a way of high-fiving the many fans that helped fund their forthcoming third album through Pledge Music, the Travelling Band will be playing a special show at The Castle Hotel on Monday 20th May 2013 and streaming the whole thing via music and culture website The 405.

The absolutely snoggable Temple Songs have gone and trumped out an amazing debut single entitled ‘Passed Caring’ to be given to the world via RIP Records on July 1st 2013.

That ain’t all y’all, couple of nice lads called Mark Doyle and Matthew Turner have produced a fuzzy saturation fest of a video to accompany the track. Feast your thighs…

‘Barred For Life’ is an ambitious photo documentary that journeys through the American hardcore music scene of the 1980′s and more specifically the much tattooed image of ‘The Bars’ – The iconic logo of DIY punk forefathers Black Flag.

After six years of globe trotting photographs and interviews with countless Black Flag fans and scene insiders, the ‘Barred For Life’ project has been squeezed into a stunning book featuring the vivid black and white photography of Jared Castaldi and Stewart Dean Ebersole and the DIY fanzine-style layout and typography of Matt Smith.

To celebrate the launch of the book, ‘Barred For Life’ are holding a free exhibition and book signing in collaboration with Vans at Manchester’s V Revolution on Friday May 10th 2013 as well as an after party the following day at Satan’s Hollow featuring live music from Mob Rules, Moloch, Thawed Out and Sump.

That’s right indie fans, Manchester’s beloved alternative clubnight and live music showcase is closing it’s doors after five splendid years in the game. From humble beginnings at the Rampant Lion basement where the thin crowds break danced wearing Dave Benson Phillips masks to the award winning heights of The Roadhouse – and all the Saki Bars in between – Underachievers have provided an unpretentious, diverse and high caliber soundtrack to our weekends and God bless them for it.

To celebrate their own ascension to indie heaven Mr Dave and Señorita Kirsty have put together a special compilation featuring tracks by the many bands that have graced their doors over the years which will be available in two halves at the final Underachievers nights.

So sit back, hit that bong and think about the good times, cos they’re over and we’re all going to die.
